Cumberland Academy of Georgia, an Atlanta private school for Autism, is proud to announce that student David Simanovsky is the winner of the school competition of the National Geographic Bee, which moves him one step closer to a $50,000 college scholarship.
David Simanovsky, a middle school student at Atlanta Autism school Cumberland Academy of Georgia, won the school competition of the National Geographic Bee and a chance at a $50,000 college scholarship. He and another finalist endured multiple rounds of tiebreaker questions before Simanovsky was declared the winner. This was the first round in the 28th annual National Geographic Bee.
Thousands of schools around the United States and in the five U.S. territories are participating in the 2016 National Geographic Bee. The champions, including Simanovsky, will take a qualifying test; up to 100 of the top scorers on that test in each state will then be eligible to compete in their state National Geographic Bee on April 1, 2016.
The National Geographic Society will provide an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. for the state winners to participate in the national championship rounds May 22 to 25, 2016. The first place national champion will receive a $50,000 college scholarship, a lifetime membership to the National Geographic Society, including a subscription to National Geographic Magazine, and a National Geographic Expeditions trip to a national park in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service.
The national finals will air on television on the National Geographic channel and PBS stations. Check local listings for dates and times.
