The school is phenomenal for my child, teachers are engaged and caring, she has excelled and has grown confidence. I would highly recommend this school
I went to Cumberland Academy of Georgia for a total of five years. On Thursday, May 16th, I graduated from high school. During my experience here,I made so many great friends.Even the teachers I met here were very helpful, everyone else who worked at Cumberland, you have always been so supportive of me
Cumberland Academy has been a game changer for my son and our family. My only regret is not enrolling him sooner. This school truly enables our children.
My son has thrived in this nurturing and creative school. The small class size and individual attention is an excellent model for kids with ASD. The teachers and staff are committed to not only academic success, but also the growth, happiness and maturity of each student. The parents provide a wonderful support system as well. It is a dynamic education program.
We couldn’t have been more pleased with our time at Cumberland Academy. The dedication from the top all the way down is not replicated anywhere in Atlanta. Importantly, this is not a behavior based environment, but rather one for kids to thrive in across multiple facets.
The teachers and staff are so friendly, patient, kind, and hard working. There are so many opportunities for students to be engaged in different educational experiences.
My son loves Cumberland Academy of Georgia. We moved from out of state so he could attend this amazing and supportive school. The teachers get to know their students well and teach to their learning styles. My son also takes part in a lot of the sports, clubs, and extra curricular activities. After years of fighting school systems for an appropriate education for my son, we have finally found it at Cumberland.
Cumberland Academy of Georgia has been a God send for my granddaughter! She has flourished, regained her confidence in her ability to perform & excel in academics. The staff is dedicated, hardworking and devoted to the craft of teaching students with disabilities. I love the curriculum and incorporation of extra curricular activities.
We were desperately looking for a school that met the needs of his high academic performance and social skills challenges. Cumberland was the solution. The staff is highly trained, the curriculum is adequately challenging and is designed to meet the needs of individual students. There are fantastic school activities and field trips as well. We can’t say enough wonderful things about Cumberland Academy. It’s been a lifesaver for our son.
This school is amazing. I can’t enough good things about the founder, Debbi Scarborough and the entire staff. They are 100% dedicated to both the academic and social success of the students.
I want everyone to know how much Cumberland Academy has helped my son. He graduated from Cumberland in 2014. We were so blessed to have found a school that catered to his needs and learning style. He was so successful that after he graduated he attended Chattahoochee Technical College. I am also proud to say that he will be attending Savannah College of Art & Design this fall. I think what best describes his experience at Cumberland is when he says that he will always feel at home at Cumberland Academy of Georgia.
Cumberland has been nothing short of amazing for my 9th grader with ADHD, ASD and LD.Cumberland has been a life saver. I’ve never seen my daughter so independent, so confident and more importantly so happy! She looks forward to going to school each day.
my son loves this school. He never used the term “best friend” until he started at Cumberland. This school has helped him not only academically and socially but his confidence has improved greatly. We are fortunate to have access to such a wonderful school.
The team at Cumberland made us feel warm and welcome from the introduction! Over the past 4 Years I’ve watched them handle a variety of situations with compassion and excellence. Its made a world of difference for my son. He’s a different kid today…confident and funny, smart and compassionate.
This school provides an excellent academic program for students on the autism spectrum, as well as programs that support socialization and life skills. The teachers and staff care about each student’s growth.
If you have a special needs child, Cumberland Academy is one of the best schools in Georgia. The classrooms are spacious and the student teacher ratio is wonderful. The majority of the children have IEP’s, but you cannot tell from the curriculum, standards, expectations and the passion that the educators provide. From day one, they exceeded our expectations things that my son wasn’t able to do, or had never been introduced to, he was not only learning it, but was excelling as well. We love the warm environment and from the moment you enter the building you feel welcome. I love all of courses and extracurricular activities that the children have access to. I was shocked when I saw that they had cooking classes, and not just mediocre, Im talking about a real kitchen where life skills can be learned. Our son had the opportunity to participate in bowling and basketball on a weekly basis, it really helped him socially. He also enjoyed being apart of a family where he truly fit in.
Cumberland Academy of Georgia has been a God Send to my child and our family. He struggled in the public system for many years with teachers and administrators who did not understand nor care to try and understand his special needs. The staff at Cumberland have gone out of their way to accomodate his needs and make him feel like a valuable human being. I have seen a marked improvement in his self esteem, social skills and academic performance. My only regret is that I wish I had discovered and enrolled my son in this school sooner.
I cannot say enough good things about this school! It is truly a one-of-a-kind environment, where children with social and educational challenges can thrive. We are so happy to have found Cumberland.
The staff and teachers at Cumberland Academy of GA work hard in order to differentiate curriculum and understand how each student learns best. Every student at Cumberland processes information differently, therefore, we pride ourselves on creating and implementing social and academic strategies on a student by student basis. Our social pragmatic program, which caters toward kids on the spectrum, is what sets us apart from other schools in the Atlanta area. The teachers at Cumberland genuinely care for each and every student and their success.
Cumberland Academy has been a safe haven for my child for over 5 years now. He has made friends and is blossoming into a wonderful, social young man. I would recommend this school to any parent with a child on the spectrum as a safe and exceptional learning environment.
Our son is a graduate of Cumberland Academy of Ga.The teachers and staff accommodated his special needs and provided him with an environment in which he could grow both academically and socially. We were amazed at the extent to which the teachers gave of their time, talents, and resources to work with the students. The environment and support that our son received during his time at Cumberland played a major role in his success.
I worked at Cumberland for a few years and loved it. The director is wonderful and really cares about the students, teachers and staff. She is always willing to go the extra mile!
My son started at Cumberland Academy last year and it has completely transformed his and our family’s life. His ability is finally being allowed to shine because he is making all A’s because the school accommodates for his needs. I can not say enough fabulous things about this school. This school goes beyond teaching just academics, they really develop character in the students and teach them how to become responsible, caring adults. Cumberland has been one of the greatest blessings in our life!
We still think it is the best option for our child – he is strong academically, but would struggle socially in a typical school setting and even many of the ‘special needs schools’ because they are more focused on learning disabilities rather than social deficits. I like that there are teachers and staff there that have known my child since he started and will likely be there to see him graduate.
The administration goes the extra mile to take care of both parents and students. It feels like family to us now.
Cumberland Academy has been our saving grace. My son is Thriving, flourish to an independent, enthusiastic young man. He has many friends and plenty of social interaction to nourish and foster his intellectual, social and academic growth. We love Cumberland.
A great school with amazing teachers and wonderful staff.
The teachers are effective, empathetic and set high standards for their students.A big plus at the school is the large counseling staff available to help students and their families. At Cumberland they educate the whole child. We love the school and are impressed with how the administration, teachers and staff members continually work to improve the school. We moved from Birmingham, Alabama, so our daughter could attend. We also lived in Washington, DC for many years, and Cumberland Academy of Georgia is the best school for special needs that our daughter has attended.
Our son has matured at Cumberland and his academics have improved. He enjoys playing basketball and feeling part of a team. We are looking forward to his high school years. The founder and staff are very involved in helping the high school students either apply to college or find appropriate jobs.
We moved to the area specifically for this school. Our child loves it, has made friends, is engaged, is learning, has opportunities for after-school activities, and more. The teachers seem to really care about our child’s progress, and the staff, in general, makes the experience fun for the kids. The school has connections with local colleges, making the transition from high school to college potentially easier.
My son is a graduate of Cumberland. He’s graduating from college and has a job in his field.Cumberland is very focused on preparing students for life after high school – for many that is college, He loves to go back and visit his former teachers and administration to say hi and update them on what he’s doing.
I am a teacher at Cumberland. The school is loving and supportive of the students. We teach to their level of understanding and challenge them to learn more while meeting their needs. The teachers hold degrees and advanced degrees and are required to have Special Education training. After working in a public school with learning disability students, this environment is better supportive to the students and the teachers. We cater to partner with parents who need support, support students who want to learn and strive in their unique way of learning and not be shamed for it.
