Summer should feel fun, predictable, and welcoming. At Cumberland Academy of Georgia in Sandy Springs, structured summer camps help neurodiverse students build social skills, try new activities, and connect with peers. Clear routines blend creativity, movement, and teamwork in a supportive setting.
A Supportive Summer Experience
Cumberland teachers lead camp, with school leadership present daily. Campers receive thoughtful encouragement as they practice conversation, cooperation, and flexibility. Learn more about our Pioneers program and Navigators program.

Beyond Summer Camp: Learning Throughout the School Year
These school-year field trips are separate from summer camp. Experiences ranging from whole-school whitewater rafting to science labs and volunteer outings help students build confidence, social skills, independence, and real-world understanding.
Whitewater Rafting: A Whole-School Adventure
Once a year, the whole school takes to the water together. Navigating the rapids with peers and staff builds teamwork, resilience, emotional regulation, and a lasting sense of accomplishment.
Cumberland Community Cares
Students volunteer through Cumberland Community Cares at the Atlanta Community Food Bank, local senior centers, Habitat for Humanity, and neighborhood parks. These outings connect classroom learning with civic responsibility while strengthening communication, teamwork, and perspective-taking.
Center for Puppetry Arts
Students explore Edgar Allan Poe’s work through puppetry and performance. This multisensory, arts-based experience offers another accessible way to reinforce storytelling, sequencing, and thematic understanding.

Cumberland students and students from outside the school may attend. Outside students must provide a current psychoeducational evaluation and/or IEP so the camp team can plan appropriate support.
