Cumberland Academy of Georgia strives to successfully address the social and emotional needs of each student. Full time counselors work with students to develop strategic coping, life and social skills. Students are encouraged to use and practice their skills among peer relations, in social situations and in social skills classes. As part of the Cumberland curriculum, students experience a variety of challenging social situations. At every opportunity, teachers provide a platform to challenge students to speak publicly, interact appropriately and read social cues of others. Cumberland students perform in plays, speak at Graduation, participate in public ceremonies such as our community-wide September 11 ceremony, experience white water rafting in a group, cook as a team at Young Chef’s Academy, learn proper etiquette with others in a restaurant setting, and volunteer at food banks and the library.
